Dear colleagues,
The World Health Assembly in May 2014 adopted a resolution to strengthen palliative care services, in recognition of the limited availability of these services
in much of the world and the great avoidable suffering for millions of patients with chronic diseases and their families.
The resolution urges Member States to create or strengthen, as appropriate, health systems that include palliative care. This resolution is in support of the PAHO Regional NCD Plan of Action as well as the
WHO NCD Plan of Action, which both include indicators on palliative care services. In this regard, we are pleased to share with you some resources which may assist in the implementation of this resolution on palliative care.
1-
A planning guide for palliative care services;
2-
a checklist of essential practices for palliative care, developed by our partner organization, the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care.
We hope you find these resources useful.
